Self-guided walking tour along the Vienne River in Loire Valley. Circular walking holidays in a wine-producing area where England and France History are closely mixed. You will tour outstanding abbey, lovely medieval villages and castles.

This tour will lead you through the lands of Rabelais, a native of these parts, and into the high spots of the Pichropoline Wars wherein Gargantua, Gargamelle and others played the valorous heroes. This region, criss-crossed by the Vienne river, perpetuates a certain art de vivre, combining the perfect tastes of its gastronomy and wines and the Rabelais philosophy, and filling the region with an atmosphere of joie de vivre, conviviality and tolerance. History radiates throughout the region in exceptional sites such as Chinon, the medieval chateau of Le Rivau, Montsoreau and the Fontevraud Abbey or the 12thC. church of Candes St Martin.
