CA34 – Alsace

Self-guided walking tour through Alsace vineyards. Walking holidays to discover lovely wine–producing villages from Obernai to Colmar via Ribeauvillé, Riquewihr, Turckheim and Eguisheim.

Between the Rhine and the first slopes of the Vosges mountains coverd with vineyards stretches the Alsace plain, large corridor that links Northern and Southern of Europe. History of Alsace is very eventful and the Vosges summits are crowned with the ruins of feudal castles which defended this important route. The successive wars decimated the alsacian vineyard and the villages but people are always known how to recover and brought back to its true grandeur and nobility. During this tour you will taste the different types of wine: Sylvaner, Riesling, Pinot, Muscat … and will discover beautiful medieval villages, flowered streeets, Romanesque and Gothic churches, Renaissance half-timberd houses. You will savour this local cuisine, choucroute, backhoefe or Kougelhof…and will enjoy the warm and festive atmosphere of these winstubs where you eat flamekueche and drink local wines or beers.
